The latest twist in the ongoing saga of former Dominican consul in Cap Haitien, Radhames “Chino” Garcia, accused of selling illicit DR visas to illegal immigrants from China, is carried in today’s papers. Garcia is still an elected deputy for the PRD, and under article 32 of the constitution he may be entitled to leave prison in order to attend today’s meeting of the Chamber of Deputies. This has renewed calls for the disgraced former consul to be stripped of his immunity, led by Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito. Radhames “Chino” Garcia spent over a year evading the authorities, and is now in custody at Najayo jail.
