“Food comes first” plan goes into action

The government plan to get food to needy families will go into action at the beginning of next week in Santo Domingo’s “24 April” neighborhood. In this pilot, a total of 1,166 families will each receive a RD$550 subsidy to designed to alleviate extreme poverty. Other families who live in the poor neighborhoods along the banks of the Ozama River are claiming that they too need to join the program. Some of those in receipt of the subsidy spoke to reporters at the Simon Bolivar Clubhouse as they checked personal information and got ready to get their debit cards. Most of the women said that they wanted friends and neighbors to be included in the plan.
