All talk, no action

Political scientists Pedro Catrain and Cesar Perez told Hoy newspaper that the government of President Leonel Fernandez has not demonstrated political will to fight corruption and there has just been talk, no action. As the Bible says, they will be judged according to their conduct and their actions, says Catrain. He says so far there has not been any positive action in the fight against corruption.

Cesar Perez said there is no action in the cases of the bank frauds or the corruption acts in the Mejia administration. Catrain told Hoy newspaper that there have been contradictions in the Plan Renove and the delays in resolving the rock ash case, despite everyone knowing who the responsible are.

Furthermore, he criticized the cancellation of the environmental prosecutor, lawyer David La Hoz. La Hoz had ordered the arrest of the former minister of environment and deputy minister of environment. He said that it is strange that La Hoz was removed precisely when he began to act against officers of the past government. “That is another contradictory sign of the present government and its fight against corruption,” he said.

Perez commented that the problem is that the parties blackmail themselves and cover up for each other. Perez said citizens can only continue to insist that corruption be combated and continue to denounce corruption.
