Public Works Minister Freddy Perez backs the construction of tall buildings anywhere in the city, with the sole exception of the Colonial City. The city government is discussing a project for zoning that would enable the construction of tall towers in previously banned areas. Yesterday, neighborhood groups from Bella Vista, Renacimiento, Costa Verde, Las Praderas and Julieta visited the city hall to defend the low density of their areas. Maria Reynoso, of Renacimiento, told El Caribe: “Priority cannot be given to the construction business over the quality of life, because higher towers mean problems with the supply of water and garbage,” as reported in El Caribe.
But Public Works Minister Perez does not agree. “If the ground can hold 200 floors, then we should build 200-floor towers. Vertical growth enables promoters to invest more,” he said. In his opinion, even Gazcue should be opened to the construction of skyscrapers.
