Prosecutor looks for accomplices

The Attorney General of the Dominican Republic, Francisco Dominguez Brito told reporters that the Justice Department was looking for accomplices of Quirino Paulino Castillo in the Armed Forces and the National Police. According to Hoy newspaper, the AG told reporters that his office would have to fight this battle “not only with the accused, but also with all those that were complicit (in assisting Paulino Castillo).” Telling reporters that he does not think that extraditions in the Paulino Castillo case have ended, Dominguez Brito said that everyone connected with the case would be investigated and “let the chips fall where they may.”

Yesterday, former army chief of staff, retired Major General Radhames Jorge Zorrilla Ozuna was questioned for several hours about his ties to the former army captain. Most of the questioning centered on the reinstatement of Paulino Castillo to the Armed Forces with the rank of captain. Zorrilla told his questioners that he just “obeyed orders from superiors.” As reported in Hoy newspaper, the former major general and army chief of staff, explained that “a subordinate officer needs to obey orders when they are given by a superior.” Zorrilla spoke with the press in the presence of the district attorney for the National District, Jose Manuel Hernandez. The previous day the DA’s office had questioned former Minister of the Armed Forces, retired Major General Jose Miguel Soto Jimenez.
