The Minister of Higher Education, Ligia Amada Melo said that she has met with a delegation from the City University of New York (CUNY) and would soon announce an agreement whereby scholarships would become available to Dominican students, as reported in the Listin Diario Likewise, the program also contemplates exchange programs so that CUNY system students can participate in the English as a Second Language programs being implemented in the DR. She said the program envisions three-month student exchanges, as well as the facility for Dominican university students or the New York City university system to transfer to CUNY or Dominican universities, respectively, for a semester. For starters, some 50 scholarships would be available for studies at CUNY for programs beginning in September. The Ministry of Higher Education would pick up the tab for the studies.
