President Fernandez in USA and Spain

President Leonel Fernandez leaves on Wednesday for a 10-day trip that will take him to Chicago, New York City and Boston in the United States, and then on to Madrid, Spain.

The DR’s President will arrive on Wednesday, 2 March in Chicago, where he will attend a reception at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

On Thursday, 3 March he will participate in a 10:30am meeting with Chicago city officials, including John Stroger, Jr, the president of Cook County; Rod Blagojevich, the state governor; and Richard Daley, Jr, Chicago’s mayor. A lunch will be sponsored by the UIC and the World Trade Center of Chicago. That afternoon, President Fernandez will meet with officials of the Program for International Commerce and the Illinois Department of Commerce. Also on his Chicago agenda are meetings with Cook County Commissioner Roberto Maldonado and Dominicans living in the area.

On 4 March, Fernandez is scheduled for a 4pm presentation at New York University’s Voices of Latin America program. Voices of Latin America is a series of in-depth discussions with prominent Latin Americans on issues facing the Americas and the world. The debates are moderated by Jorge Castaneda, a distinguished professor of Political Science and Latin American and Caribbean Studies at NYU and Mexico’s former foreign minister. The series probes into economic, social, historical and political dimensions of Latin America’s relations with the US and the world community.

That evening, First Lady Margarita Cedeno is scheduled to participate in an International Women’s Day event at United Palace.

On Saturday, 5 March, President Fernandez will travel to Boston for meetings with Massachusetts state business advocates and government officers. President Fernandez is also scheduled to be a speaker at the VIII Latin American Conference at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. On Sunday, 6 March, Fernandez will return to New York City where he will be the keynote speaker at the 10th anniversary of the Hauser Global Law Program of New York University. Titled “Globalization and the Future of the Hemisphere,” his speech will be given from 11:15am to 12:15pm at Vanderbilt Hall, located at 40 Washington Square South. On Monday, 7 March, President Fernandez is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the 2005 Latin Media, IT & Telecommunications Conference taking place at the United Nations headquarters. These focus on global issues of competitiveness, multiculturalism, healthcare, the UN’s Millennium Development Goals, technology and corporate social responsibility. See
