Santo Domingo carnival

This Sunday, 6 March will see the capital city’s annual parade that showcases carnival entries from all over the country. The event begins on the western side of the Malecon at 3pm and will continue until sunset, at around 7pm. Some 180 groups from different city barrios and 22 provinces where carnival events are held have registered to participate. The carnival’s theme this year is the popular merengue “Pa’lante Carnaval” – a play on the “E’ pa’lante que vamos” election slogan of the present government. The carnival this year is being organized by the Ministry of Culture.
