Northern Santo Domingo escaped a major tragedy yesterday when at tank truck carrying 10,000 gallons of propane gas ran off the roadway and fell into the Yaguaza River. Fortunately, there was no explosion and nobody was hurt. According to fire officials on the scene, even the exhaust fumes of passing vehicles could have set off such a blast. For 16 hours the people around the Mirador del Norte were under constant tension as the truck belonging to Propagas was emptied. Heavy traffic is prohibited along the Mirador Norte, and there are sign indicating this at both ends of the road.
