The Dominican Republic, last year’s Group 2 runner-up, advanced to the next round of the American Group Two Davis Cup challenge by defeating Jamaica 3-2 at the Liguanea Club in Jamaica. Victor Estrella pulled the win by defeating Jamaica’s Damar Johnson, 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 2-6, 3-6. The winning team over three rounds will be promoted to Group 1 in 2006. The teams that lose their first-round ties will play off against each other and two teams will be relegated to Group 3 in 2006. Going into the matches, Dominican Republic’s Victor Estrella and Johnson Garcia held world rankings of 1470 and 1352, respectively. Countries advancing to the second round of the Americas Zone Group II are Brazil Netherlands Antilles, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic.
