DR wins gold in Special Olympics

The Dominican Republic won a gold medal in hockey in the Winter Special Olympics that took place last week in Nagano, Japan. The Dominican team won the medal by defeating Brazil, Ecuador, Costa Rica, South Africa, Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico and Austria.

Dominican athletes participated in hockey, basketball, track and field, swimming, bowling events among others.

Floor hockey team members were Pablo Ortega, Carlos Martinez, Junior Amparo, Jose Gregorio Torres, Nelson Peralta, Juan Cortorreal, Johan Novas, Joel Novas, Jerlin Urena, Tomas Nunez, Carlos Guillen and Jose Miguel Abreu. More than 1,900 athletes from 80 countries competed in seven sports at the 8th Special Olympics World Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.
