Former Minister of Agriculture and head of the PPH re-electionist movement that tried to get a second term for Hipolito Mejia, Eligio Jaquez is said to be the real owner of the greenhouses assigned to his brother. Depreco, the government Department for the Prevention of Corruption, reports that its investigations show that former government officials received this booty through the use of frontmen, as in the case of Epigenio Jaquez, a brother of the former official and chief henchman for the President. The investigation is looking at the ownership of 51 greenhouses valued at US$180,000 each, that were built with loans totaling US$39 million and a Dominican counterpart funding of RD$200 million. According to the Listin Diario, the investigators are looking for documents that support their claims of malfeasance in an office in Santo Domingo. The paper says that these documents will be the centerpiece of the government’s indictments.
