The “Big Dance,” a.k.a. “March Madness,” a.k.a. the NCAA Division I National Playoffs, will get underway this week, and several young Dominicans will be there. No merengue, salsa or bachata for these guys, however. A lot of man on man, zone or a box and one defenses, fast breaks or half-court plays on offense is in store for them and millions of fans around the world. Last year’s champion, the Connecticut Huskies have Charlie Villanueva, the Louisville Cardinals have the talented Francisco Garcia, and the Florida Gators have Al Horford. This elite group will be joined by Ronald Ramon of the Pittsburgh Panthers, Kenton Paulino of the Texas Longhorns and Pierre Altidor-Cespedes of Gonzaga.. The Big Dance starts on Thursday when the 65 teams chosen begin the playoffs. The Cardinals, the Gators and the Panthers are being given a good chance to make it through the first round and some people think that Louisville may even make it to the Round of 16.
