Ramos is still a deputy

Despite being in jail serving an 18-month sentence for people smuggling, Radhames Ramos Garcia will continue to be paid and maintains his status as deputy for La Vega on the PRD party ticket. As reported in Diario Libre, the legal advisor of the chamber of deputies, Rafael Gonzalez Tirado explained that for him to be expelled from the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate would have to act, as established in Art. 23 of the Constitution. The Chamber of Deputies would first have to accuse him, and then the Senate would need to carry out a political procedure to decide if he is guilty or else decide to discharge him.
