No room at the inn?

The Dominican Republic has become a very important option for those considering a vacation of hot sun and beautiful beaches. In the face of this reality, Dominicans who are thinking of spending the Easter Week holidays at the beach will face a reality: Only 10% of the rooms has been allotted this year for domestic tourism despite traditionally between 30% and 25% of the rooms are used by local tourists. This year there is a 90% occupation by foreigners since the holidays are falling during the peak of the tourism season. The president of ASONAHORES, Enrique de Marchena Kaluche said that usually Easter falls in April, when the season slacks off and prices for local travelers are better. Some of the coastal areas only have 5% of their rooms reserved for local tourism. The costs have certainly gone up, with the average price per person at an A-1 resort at RD$3,000.
