An arrested man who had escaped the Palacio de Justicia jail in Ciudad Nueva on Good Friday died when he dived into the Caribbean Sea fronting the Malecon to escape police persecution. 26-year old Cristian Yorleneypit Gesvaldo King awaits his trial. A judge established a RD$200,000 bail on 9 March, but he didn’t have the 10% to post the bail, and thus had to stay in jail. Gesvaldo was arrested on 7 March when he was caught in the environs of the Police headquarters with five plastic chairs, a value of approximately RD$500, he supposedly had stolen from the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
