El Nacional newspaper published yesterday the list of the beneficiaries of the vehicles that the Police over the years has recovered from thieves but instead of returning them to the due owners distributed amongst themselves and persons of influence.
The list includes at least 38 generals and 94 colonels. The practice began in 1988 and continued through 16 April 2004.
The newspaper highlights that one corporal, Felix Nunez Espiritu Santo was allotted a Mercedes Benz on 1 May 2000, two weeks before election day. Former Police chief Antonio Segundo Imbert Tesson was allotted five vehicles. Journalist Saul Pimentel received a Nissan Sentra on 18 August 1994.
