IMF looks at Senate goals

Representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) visited the National Congress at the end of last week to see if the goals that have been set out by the IMF regarding certain legislative processes have been met. The IMF delegation emphasized the need to revise some of the tax codes and the Law of Systemic Risks. Also on the table were the final approvals of the laws dealing with the Budget, the Criminalization of Tax Evasion, and the law on Purchases and Concessions. The commissioners expressed their appreciation for the reception given the proposals that have been sent and that form part of the requirements needed in order to maintain the IMF agreement afoot. Without offering details, Agustin Carstens, the delegation chief, told reporters that their conversations were “constructive” and helped the commissioners to better understand the country. He urged the legislators to continue their work like they have been doing up to now. Carstens said that the Congress is well aware of the fact that the country needs macroeconomic transparency and stability.
