At least one wounded and a dozen jailed was the result of two days of protests in the Cibao Valley. The protests called by local community organizations were supposed to be peaceful. Jose Mateo (Cheo) was in serious condition from a bullet wound in his leg. He was transferred from Bonao to the Dario Contreras Hospital in Santo Domingo for treatment. The protests, managed by the FALPO and the FLUP community activists, were staged to make the government aware of the popular unrest that has resulted from what is perceived to be high prices. Several neighborhoods in Bonao were virtually held prisoner as the protests ran thorough the streets and the Police attempted to maintain order. In Navarrete and Moca, old tires were burned and stone barricades were set up to hamper Police efforts to keep control of the situation. In Licey al Medio, the protest was lifted at 5:00 p.m. after a representative of the Ministry of Public Works and the governor of Espaillat province Guarocuya Cabral promised to build a highway, some rural roads and some repair work in Canca La Reina where several houses were destroyed in landslides at the beginning of the year.
