In honor of the Pope

In Santo Domingo, Papal Nuncio Msgr Timothy Broglio will say a special mass on Friday evening in the Columbus Park in front of the Santo Domingo Cathedral on occasion of the burial of Pope John Paul II. For the occasion, a special exhibition of photographs that commemorate the Pope’s three visits to the Dominican Republic will opened at the cathedral. Other memorabilia to go on exhibit are the specially-designed vehicle and chair he used during one of his three trips to the Dominican Republic.

The Ministry of Culture is also inviting to a Saturday morning mass officiated by Msgr. Timothy Broglio at 9 am on the esplanade in front of the Columbus Lighthouse monument. Pope John Paul II visited the site in 1992, and on the occasion carried out the first canonization of a saint in the Americas.

The Ministry of Culture will subsequently exhibit the items during the 21 April to 1 May Book Fair in the Plaza de la Cultura.
