The National Police Department of Investigations announced the confiscation of 3,800 boxes of contraband hard liquor valued at RD$40 million. The whisky was confiscated in a farm warehouse on the Moca-La Vega highway. The liquor bottles included several brands stored in two freight containers. As reported in the Listin Diario the warehouse belongs to Santiago businessman Julio Pichardo, and the farm is owned by Edwin Garcia.
Yesterday, the director of Customs Department met with Armed Forces Minister Admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez and other high-ranking officers to discuss the need to reinforce border controls.
