Asonahores rejects more taxes

The president of the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants, Enrique Eduardo de Marchena Kaluche rejected the imposition of new taxes on the sector as untimely. “Tourism activity in the DR is already taxed highly enough and generates enough fiscal revenues for the country. More taxes are not necessary to finance public works,” he said, as reported in Hoy newspaper. He seconded the recent statements by spokesmen for the Association of Airlines. “The tourism sector has been affected by property taxes, and by having higher civil aviation taxes than most Caribbean countries,” he said. “In our opinion, more taxes would be untimely.” Nevertheless, he recognized the importance of the public sector announcing new works for tourism destinations.
