President takes on case at Public Works

President Leonel Fernandez took the lead in the investigation that involves millions of pesos and one of the deputy ministers of the Ministry of Public Works. According to Hoy, the President is looking into the construction and equipping of the new Supreme Court building that cost, according to all the papers, over RD$1 billion. The president of the National Commission of Ethics and the Fight against Corruption, Jose Joaquin Bido Medina made the announcement. The Ethics Commission looked into the issue but the circumstances surrounding the construction and possible overbilling happened before the Commission was formed. Bido Medina has the rank of a minister as the head of the commission. The press has been carrying the reports of massive over-billing during the construction and equipping of the Supreme Court building, and this has led to an open confrontation between the Minister of Public Works and one of his deputy ministers Kalil Michel Prebost, who was in charge of the jobsite. Now, according to Bido Medina, the President himself, will take a hand in the investigations.
