Officials of the J-2 and G-2 units of the Armed Forces along with investigators from the Department of Customs have uncovered, literally, a container that had been buried along with 300 cases of vodka. At the same time, two persons that are being linked to the Justice Department and three Police officials are under investigation in the case, after they apparently hid information and evidence in order to cover up the contraband. Investigators say that the liquor was in the care of Tony Abreu, who has been held responsible for other shipments of liquor that have been seized by the Customs officers. The vodka was found on a property located at kilometer 16 of the Duarte Highway, in a sparsely populated area to the north of Los Alcarrizos.
In other seizures, the customs agents seized 2,000 cases of illegally imported liquors, including whiskeys, wines and brandies. The stash was found in the house of Jose Perez (a.k.a. Cheo Barcelo) in the La Joya section of lower Santiago. This brings to 8,000 the number of cases of illegal beverages that have been seized from Perez.
