Citizens blast judges

The Committee of United Community Organizations from the Southern Zone of Santiago blasted the alleged negligence of the prosecutors and judges because they release delinquents that have been caught red-handed by the Police with such ease. They also want a crackdown on one-armed bandits and other electronic machines being used by minors. The group asked “how is it possible that they (the delinquents) are sent home from the Hall of Justice when they were caught red-handed by the police and civilians from our community action group?” The presidents of the neighborhood watch groups on the southern part of Santiago, Pedro Paulino, Felix Genaro, Angelita Villaman, Jose Alberto Pena and the former principal of the Emiliano Tardif School, Narciso Gonzalez complained about the delinquency problem in their part of the city. As reported in La Informacion from Santiago, the group pointed out that because of the crime wave, the different community organizations decided to act together with the Police to put a hard knock on the delinquents because they don’t want crime to rule their streets. Their document was sent to the local district attorney, Raul Martinez, to the judge coordinator of the courts of Instruction, to the courts that are still dealing with old cases (Tribunales Liquidadores), to the prosecutor of the Appeals Court, as well as all of the judges that operate in the courthouse. One of their complaints is that a thief that is caught in the act or that assaults a citizen gets out of the court faster than a citizen that injures a thief defending his house or his person. They point out the case of a gang in Villa Linda that has assaulted and robbed dozens of people. On 20 March, the gangsters in their hooded attire, assaulted Guillermo Crouchett Rodriguez, shooting at him and trying to rob the man. Unfortunately for them, Crouchett shot back, killing one and arresting two. But Crouchett was sent to preventative custody and only the efforts of the community groups got him out, but with some restrictions on his movements.
