Felix Sanchez, the Dominican Republic?s only Olympic gold medalist, is in Santo Domingo training for the Felix Sanchez Gran Prix that opens on 14 May. Also scheduled to compete in the Santo Domingo Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Stadium event is Kamani Bayano, the Panamanian hurdler who placed 5th in the Athens Olympic Games. Others competing in the 400 hurdles are Ken Ferguson from Canada and Otis Harris from the United States.
The Grand Prix is a sports meet organized under the International Association Athletics Federation rules.
The DR has two IAAF ranked athletes, Felix Sanchez, gold medal winner in the Athens Olympics, and Carlols Johelin Santos, ranked 12th in the 400 meters.
Also participating in the event will be the 4 x 400 meters men?s relay, which recently qualified for the 10th IAAF World Championship in Helsinski, this summer.
The event will take place at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Stadium track, remodeled for the Pan American Games in 2003.
