Customs eliminates bond

The Director General of the Customs Office has announced that the bond required on raw materials received under the Temporary Admission Rules (Regimen de Admision Temporal) will no longer be collected as of today, 9 May 2005. The office also announced the introduction of random inspections on exports of raw materials and the installation of Customs Offices directly inside the different industries to facilitate the inspection of containers and thus, cut down on time and costs. The announcement was made by the assistant director, Luis Sanchez who spoke to the representatives of the Dominican Association of Exports (Adoexpo) and officials of the CEI-RD, the Dominican Center for Exports and Investments. According to Sanchez, the customs bond on raw materials will free up the flow of these materials and reduce the financial costs of the manufacturers. The projected savings are calculated to be in excess of RD$1.45 billion pesos per year.

Just recently, the ADOEXPO and the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) had requested Customs to evaluate the risk factors of the major exporters and use the random checking process in the cases of the least risky industries. Both Yandra Portela of the AIRD and Jose A. Flaquer of the ADOEXPO were present at the announcement. Both Portela and Flaquer praised the measures.
