Former President Hipolito Mejia chose to not comply with the request by Judge Esther Agelan Casasnovas that he appear in court for questioning in the Hernani Salazar vs. Marino Vinicio (Vincho) Castillo libel suit. He turned down the appointment on grounds that his presence would be “fruitless and useless,” as reported in El Caribe.
He told the judge that he is not able to make any kind of contribution that may illuminate the solution to the conflict of the parties. Others that have been requested to appear in court for questioning are former chief of the Armed Forces Jose Miguel Soto Jimenez, former Presidential security chief Pedro Julio (Pepe) Goico, former secretary of the Presidency Sergio Grullon, and former Air Force chief Virgilio Sierra Perez.
