The rector of the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo, Roberto Reyna announced that the state university will build more extensions in the interior of the country so that 50% of its students may study in their hometowns. Furthermore, he said that in order to reduce the number of students that commute to the main campus of the university, 15-20% of new classrooms will be built in the outskirts of the province of Santo Domingo, with the next campus to go up in the Engombe sector to benefit students living in western Santo Domingo. He said this way students will be able to at least study their first year of university in those campuses. The UASD operates campuses in Santiago, San Francisco de Macoris and Puerto Plata.
