President Leonel Fernandez said in Santiago yesterday that the government had reached an agreement with the Haitian authorities to stop repatriations of Haitians. “The topic of migration is always the expression of a ccountry’s sovereignity and that the Dominican Republic has to define,” said President Fernandez. “Remember that migration is potestad of the sovereignty of a state,” he said responding to journalist questions. In the past 48 hours the deportation of Haitians along the northern part of the border have been reduced to a minimum, after last week around 2,000 Haitians were said to be deported. Among these, doens of Dominicans of Haitian decent, as they complained.
