Unfair competition

The Listin Diario today calls attention to the threat that the governmental INESPRE department may compete with the private sector in providing food staples that are produced or readily available here. The newspaper’s sources indicate the government is about to use INESPRE to import items such as red beans, pasta, canned fish, oatmeal, powdered milk, corn floor and oil. INESPRE would receive special permits, tax exemptions and credits that are not available to local business or producers. Local producers are subject to 32% tax on imports. The Listin opposes the unfair government competition and urges that conditions be the same for all.
