The tracking of the mobile phone has led to the solving of the murder of a young couple on 5 February of which a Catholic Church deacon was suspect. When presented with evidence and unable to explain how he had the mobile (he had changed the telephone number), army sargeant Valentin Vicioso confessed to the murder of the couple, Alexander (Joel ) Diaz Sarmiento and Yaniris Ruiz Sanchez. The family of the couple had suspect deacon Meregildo Diaz, explaining that the reason for the murder was that the deacon felt harassed by the couple that had blackmailed him after discovering his pedophile practices. Shortly after the confession, Diaz’s high profile lawyers Juan Miguel Castillo Pantaleon, Abel Rodriguez del Orbe and Luis Mercado resigned the defense, citing that their client had lied to them.
Vicioso said he killed each of two bullet shots. Afterwards, he said that the deacon himself poured gasoline over the bodies to incinerate them. He said he was paid RD$50,000 to commit the murders.
Valentin Vicioso was the seven-year driver of former Civil Defense director, Radhames Lora Salcedo.
