The Commission of Public Spending of the Congress of Costa Rica is investigating whether President Abel Pacheco of Costa Rica accepted that the Hazoury family pay for his travel expenditures to the Dominican Republic to attend the opening of Cap Cana’s beach club on the beach of Caleton, part of the luxury residential development, Cap Cana. Pacheco flew to the DR accompanied by President Leonel Fernandez, after they both attended the pro-FTA summit of Central American presidents in Washington, D.C. He was on his way back to Costa Rica. During the Cap Cana inaugural, he received a life membership to the beach club. The commission has asked for the President to return the membership and to render a report on spending related to the trip, as reported in an EFE news release.
