The Superior Education Minister Ligia Amada Melo reported 50-70% desertion levels in Dominican universities. Speaking during the First Multisectoral Encounter for Excellence in Dominican Education held at INTEC University, she also said that there are 336,000 students registered in Dominican higher learning centers, and 11,000 teachers. Of the total of students, 4% are enrolled in technical careers and 15% in post- graduate studies, with the remainder in professional careers. Career choices are: education 58,498 students (26.94%); law 27,492 students (12.6%); marketing 25,139 students (11.58%), accounting 21,748 students (10.01%), informatics 19,443 students (8.95%), administration 18,873 students (8.69%), medicine 17,227 students (7.93%), psychology 10,859 students (5%), industrial engineering 10,042 students (4.62%), civil engineering 7.83 students (3.61%).
