Quirico Rojas Caram, sought in the murder case of husband and wife Joel Sarmiento Diaz and Yaniris Ruiz Sanchez was found dead in a Jarabacoa motel, Cabanas El Momento. He was a fugitive from justice for his supposed involvement in the murder of the couple whose burned bodies were found in Azua and for which former Catholic Church deacon Meregildo Diaz Diaz is in jail. The hotel management said that Rojas had arrived in the evening and the next morning hotel staff found his body and the toxic substances that are believed to have caused his death by poisoning. He is suspected to have committed suicide. His body was taken to the Forensic Pathology Department for an autopsy. Santo Domingo prosecutor, Perfecto Acosta Suriel said that the death of Rojas Caram confirms that the murderers were those under suspicion. Rojas Caram is known to have lived with the deacon at the Hainamosa Children Center that the deacon directed. The deacon is accused of sexual abuse of minors, in addition to the murder of the couple that brought him to public view. An army sergeant has confessed to firing the shots that killed the couple at the orders of the deacon, whose aim was to get rid of the couple, who were supposedly blackmailing him for his illicit sexual activities.
