Exporters want less taxes on exports

The Association of Dominican Exporters (ADOEXPO) asked the government yesterday to free the national productive apparatus from taxes that are considered to be anti-competitive. At the same time, spokesperson Jose Antonio Flaquer rejected the current fiscal model as being against open markets. Flaquer said that if the government wants Dominican products to reach other markets, then it had best remove the taxes on production. Elena Viyella de Paliza, the head of CONEP, told reporters attending the ceremonies that saw the signing an agreement between Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago and ADOEXPO, that local business is not prepared to enter a free trade agreement if the industrialized nations do not eliminate all of their subsidies. To this, Flaquer added that the sector he represents contributes 400,000 jobs to the nation’s economy, and it cannot continue to operate amidst fiscal policies that continue to violate trade agreements and the opening of the global marketplace.
