Arturo Rodriguez, director of the National Cinema Department, announced that
scenes of The Good Shepherd directed by Robert De Niro and starring De Niro
himself, Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon will be filmed here this summer. The film
will tell the history of over 40 years in the CIA, through the eyes of James
Wilson, one of its founding officers. Rodriguez said scenes would be filmed in
San Pedro de Macoris, 40 minutes from Santo Domingo. He explained that sets
would be set up to film in the DR scenes from several places in Central America,
Cuba and Leopolville, capital of then Belgian Congo. The film has a US$110
million budget, a large portion of which will go to the actors. This is the
second mega budget Universal Films production announced for the DR. Michael Mann
has confirmed Miami Vice, the movie, would be filmed here this year.
