Diario Libre reports that the government has granted a 40-year permit to Inversiones Turisticas San Souci entrusting the administration, security, custody, tariff charging and facilities upkeep of the Port of Santo Domingo to this company that has proposed to build a mega port, residential, hotel and commercial renovation. No tender was held for the granting of the concession. Lisandro Macarrulla represents the concessionaire. The legality of the contract is based on Law 70, of 17 December 1970, Art. 8 and ruling of services 1673 that authorizes the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom) management board to grant concessions of services, for the use, occupation and exploitation of areas and port facilities for up to 10 years. The article establishes that while the duration of the concession is for 10 years, it will be automatically renewed at the time of expiry for three consecutive periods totaling 40 years.
