84% of Dominicans polled for the National Culture, Politics and Democracy poll (Demos 2004) consider that corruption among government officers is generalized. Dominicans perceive deputies and police as the most corrupt government officials. Next in degree of corruption are the ministers and city mayors. The 310-page survey was carried out by Ramonina Brea, Isis Duarte and Mitchell Seligson of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), the Centro Universitario de Estudios Politicos, Sociales y Democraficos (Cesdem) between January and March 2004, during the final months of the past Mejia administration. The study had USAID sponsorship.
