Puerto Plata Expo Cultural

Twenty-seven embassies have joined the ministries of Foreign Relations, Culture and Tourism for the hosting in Puerto Plata of ExpoMundo Cultural 2005, to be held in Puerto Plata city and Playa Dorada from 6 to 11 June. Clara Ines Chaves, event coordinator, describes the event as positioning Puerto Plata as the cultural capital of the country and the Caribbean during the event. The event is backed by the Association of Hotels of Playa Dorada.

Chaves says that the embassies are bringing the best of their countries to Puerto Plata ? music, films, arts exhibitions. The goal is to strengthen the differentiated cultural aspects so as to set the Dominican Republic as host. She explained that the event will encompass all of the city of Puerto Plata ? central park, Casa Cultural, the city government, Sociedad Cultural Renovacion, among other scenarios.

Clara Ines Chavez is director of public relations for the Playa Dorada Hotel Association. She first came to the DR as consul of Colombia. She is part of the foreign service of Colombia, but is on license.
