The DR is the 6th preferred Canadian outbound destination with 526 thousand overnight visits in 2004. After the United States, the United Kingdom leads in overnight visits with 753 thousand, followed by Mexico, France and Cuba, according to Statistics Canada.
Statistics Canada, in with the 2004 results, indicates that last year 13% more Canadians traveled to overseas countries than ever before. While most chose Europe, many were opting for a vacation in the Caribbean. Canadian residents took a record high of more than 5.7 million trips to countries other than the US, spending Canadian $ 8.8 billion in the process. The number of trips was 13.1% more than in 2003.
