Riu hotels close in Puerto Plata

Bachata, Mambo y Merengue of Riu Spanish hotel chain were closed for a week in Puerto Plata for a major decontamination effort to rid hotels of infection, after it was suspected that the Norwalk-Virus had infected the hotels, which are located in the Maimon area of Puerto Plata. The virus is said to have been brought to the area by a Canadian tourist, as reported in the Listin Diario. The bacteria first affected the property in December and was thought to have been cleansed, but a new outbreak has resulted in the decision to close the hotel for a comprehensive sweep of the property. Tourists have been affected by viral gastroenteritis with symptoms of watery diarrhea and vomiting.
