PRD convention results

The organizing committee of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) XXII Convention has issued its first bulletin with 10% of voting centers counted, giving senator Ramon Alburquerque, who is backed by former president Hipolito Mejia’s group, 33.9% of the vote. Alburquerque seeks to win the political organization’s president seat. Alburquerque is followed by former General Attorney Virgilio Bello Rosa with 31.5% of the vote, Emmanuel Esquea Guerrero (20.4%), Jose Rafael Abinader (12.9%), and Eugenio Martin Tavera (1.15%). The bulletin, issued at 10:20 pm last night, included votes from 22 provinces and according to Milagros Ortiz Bosch and Tirso Mejia Ricart, from the organizing committee, the results may vary as more centers are counted. The disputed position of Secretary General has Orlando Mera Jorge leading with 57.52%, whereas Guido Gomez Mazara and Rafael Diaz Filpo are following with 26.55% and 9.6% respectively. Anibal Garcia Duverge is in the lead for the position of Secretary of Organization, with 36.53% of the votes counted.
