Virgilio Bello Rosa, contender for the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) presidency in the party convention held on Sunday is disputing the preliminary results that show senator Ramon Alburquerque as winner. Alburquerque is leading in the first bulletin, with 10% of the votes counted, with 34% to Bello Rosa’s 31.5%. Alburquerque had the support of former President Hipolito Mejia’s PPH faction. Bello Rosa claimed that ballot boxes in Neyba, Galvan and El Seibo had been stolen, and he directly accused followers of Alburquerque. Convention coordinator Milagros Ortiz Bosch said that given how tight the outcome has been, it would not be prudent to speed up the scrutiny of the voting process, nor the release of bulletins. The Organizing Committee announced the issue of the bulletins would be temporarily suspended. Ortiz Bosch told Bello Rosa that the commission would act with due responsibility and adopt the corrections that are necessary, in case of any irregularities during the vote.
Orlando Jorge Mera appears to be the undisputed winner of the secretary general position, with 57.52% of the vote.
