Propane now floats

As was announced by President Fernandez last Tuesday, but was not widely circulated in the press, the price of propane gas began to “float” at the end of last week. For the first time since 2003, the price of propane gas began to move up and down according to the market. This week, the price of a gallon of propane gas is RD$24.96. Fernandez, in his address to the nation last week, said that the government would maintain its current RD$17.35 subsidy for the foreseeable future. El Caribe newspaper says that the current pricing will have little impact on consumers who are now accustomed to not receiving any small change from traders. A 25 gallon purchase would generate a RD$1.00 reduction in current pricing, and a 6 gallon purchase, the small 25 pound tanks used by many households, would generate just 24 ? for housewives. However, there are no pennies, nickels or dimes currently in circulation.
