Another extradited in Quirino case

A prosperous businessman from Higuey became yesterday the 20th individual arrested for extradition to the US in relation to the Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo case. Juan Alfredo Cruz Crisostomo turned himself in and was sent to New York where he is accused of laundering assets resulting from drug trafficking. He is 57 years old and a US citizen. He owns several villas in Bavaro and La Romana. The information was delivered by the spokesperson of the National Drug Department (DNCD), Bueno Torres, who stated that Cruz was being sought intensely to be extradited. Torres explained that Cruz contacted the US Embassy to leave the country voluntarily. He departed from the Las Americas International Airport on American Airlines flight No. 780 at 9:45 am accompanied by DEA special agent Jose Torres. Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo is the alleged head of a group involved in the seizure of more than 1,300 kilos of cocaine in Santo Domingo last December. He is awaiting trial in New York on drug trafficking charges. Eleven of the twenty individuals arrested are already in the US. The remainder is pending judicial processing in the Supreme Court of Justice.
