New law proposes limits on alcohol sales

With divided opinions abounding, deputy Nelson Rodriguez (PRD) is proposing that alcoholic beverage consumption be banned at places like corner stores, kiosks, local markets known as “colmadones” or “ventorillos” and the shops at gasoline stations. While some of the deputies feel that the sale of such beverages should be controlled, others feel that such legislation would be against commercial freedom and, at the same time, would lower tax income. If the legislation were to be approved, no alcohol could be served after 11 pm from Monday through Saturday, and on Sundays and holidays such products could only be served until 9 pm. The bill seeks to reduce drink-driving accidents.
