Cueva de las Maravillas

Banker Alejandro Grullon announced in an open letter published in several morning dailies that the Fundacion Patronato Cueva de las Maravillas, Inc., which had been assigned the operation and development of the cave facilities built by the previous government between San Pedro de Macoris and La Romana, resigns this responsibility and returns the entire property entrusted to them to the state, including the cave area itself and the 31 million of square meters that surround it. The lands were to have been used for the development of agroforestry projects. In the letter, explains that he does so given the express interest of the State Sugar Council in dedicating the property to uses according to the interests of its executive director. In the letter, the banker expresses his sincere wishes that whichever entity takes over the cave’s management will know how to prevent it from going the same way as other similar natural sites under government management.
