PRD election update

Organizing committee director of the recent internal election of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch said that 450,000 party members voted in the 12 June election to chose the president, secretary general and secretary general of the organization, and thousands of other internal party positions. So far, Ramon Alburquerque leads with 42%, and Virgilio Bello Rosa follows with 32% of the votes. Ortiz Bosch said that the votes from 2,311 centers have been tallied, 263 have been annulled and 66 are still pending for a count. Of the 3,825 voting centers, 666 were unable to hold the vote and will do so on Sunday, 26 June. Another 519 were merged with others.

The complementary election is scheduled for Sunday, 26 June and 160,000 potential voters will participate.

Listin Diario political commentator Orlando Gil mentions that the worst scuffles for positions are around the vice presidential positions. Meanwhile, Virgilio Bello Rosa complained of fraud in the election.
