Aviation Board on air space safety

Diario Libre reports that the Civil Aviation Board is studying claims by airlines that Dominican airspace is risky due to a series of reported near-misses that have occurred. The Dominican Association of Air Traffic Controllers (ADCA) admits that there have been “some errors” but that DR airspace is safe and reliable. Meanwhile, Aerodom, the company that runs the Las Americas and Puerto Plata international airports, airline executives, and air navigation experts asked authorities to take necessary measures to enhance safety. Diario Libre learned that the director of the Civil Aviation Board, Norge Botello, met with the three assistant directors and technicians of several departments to provide a response yesterday afternoon. The president of the ADCA, Francisco Bolivar de Leon, mentioned an inspection carried out in 2003 by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which certified Dominican air traffic control as excellent.
